Night Vision Lamp When night diving, it is important that your eyes are at their highest sensitivity, so that you can see more of the nocturnal sea life. The problem with other SCUBA lights is that they only produce a high intensity spot beam. If you use that light on deck before you dive, even if the light is directed away from your eyes, an unacceptable amount of light can enter your eye. It can take over 30 minutes before your eye readjusts to the darkness. Your dive will be over by the time your eyes are capable of seeing properly. Great WhiteTM has an optional night vision bulb. This is an auxiliary lamp that lights before the powerful krypton lamp. It is a low intensity diffuse light which will permit you to see on deck before you dive without degrading your eyes nighttime sensitivity. This night vision bulb also is a great safety factor because it continues to operate for 100 hours after the batteries are depleted by the powerful krypton bulb. It also operates even if the powerful krypton bulb is burned out.
Adjustable Intensity Great WhiteTM also has an optional adjustable intensity. Sometimes the full power of the krypton bulb is not necessary or even desirable. It s powerful beam may be great for spotting distant objects, but for close work, too much light can be annoying. Divers using the Great WhiteTM can easily control the intensity of the light through a range from very dim to very bright. Each person can adjust the intensity for each task so he performs thereby avoiding degradation of his eye sensitivity. This is an excellent safety feature, as sensitive eyesight can prevent accidents.
Dollar Savings are also created by the adjustable intensity feature because reduced intensities results in reduced power consumption which increases bulb and battery life drastically. At a reduced intensity, the batteries last for approximately 9 hours, and the powerful krypton bulb lasts for up to 400 hours.
